On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of Rambam Hospital, Haifa City Museum, with the collaboration of the Rambam Health Care Campus, is launching a family-oriented exhibition combining photographs, old and new medical equipment, and interactive media, offering visitors opportunities for discovery and surprise.

On the occasion of the tenth decade since the opening of the largest hospital in the north of Israel, Haifa City Museum will launch the exhibition "Finger on the Pulse," presenting the story of the hospital since its founding. The exhibition will examine Rambam Hospital's place in the city of Haifa and its status as a symbol, a public landmark, and an urban site that forms an integral part of Haifa's special character.

Rambam Hospital, previously a British government hospital, has been serving the residents of Haifa and the northern district for the past century. It was established by the British Mandate government as an institution open to all the city's residents, whether British, Arab, or Jewish, for the first time providing medical services regardless of nationality. The hospital's founding was a major event in Haifa's history. Here in Haifa, a medical establishment was created aiming to be the "most significant medical center in the Middle East," as stated by the High Commissioner during the inauguration ceremony of the hospital's permanent residence in December 1938. The hospital was deliberately built in the Lower City, near the port, not far from the railroad station, and in the midst of what was then the living heart of the city.

Yet even in the decades before it moved to its new location, the hospital had a central role in local events. Its story reflects formative urban incidents, political changes, moments of crisis, and periods of growth and development. The exhibition "Finger on the Pulse" will present the story of the hospital from its inauguration, seeing it as a kind of "pulse-taker" of Haifa and the northern district, and as an integral part of the history of the State of Israel.

As it is the largest hospital in Israel's north, the exhibition will also address the technological innovation and medical breakthroughs achieved by Rambam over the years, which influenced the lives of many in Israel and worldwide.
